The Authority of the Lord
Remember the authority of the Lord.
The trials, suffering, the frustrations, the urgency of everyday life can make us forgetful. We can grow forgetful of the Lord's authority when our circumstances feel out of control. We can grow forgetful of the Lord's authority when trials hits us unexpectedly or when trials linger in our life. We grow forgetful because ultimately we live our days as our own authority.
And so what should we remember through all of life’s ups and downs?
Psalm 115, verse 3:
Our God is in the heavens; he does all that He pleases.
Our God is in the heavens. Above this changing world, above the trial, the suffering, this mortal life which can feel so out of control, reigns the Lord who does not change. He has reigned, is reigning, will forever reign.
And this God does all that He pleases. His authority is so great, nothing stays His hand. That which God wills, God does, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.
And believer what great news that is! Because what does it please Him to do?
Verses such as Romans 8:28 remind us that this sovereign God is pleased to work all things together for your good. The highs, the lows, the mundane things, the sorrow, the pain, all answer to the authority of our God. And all these things are being woven into a tapestry of good that one day we will see in full.
Our God is in the heavens; he does all that He pleases.
Believer, remember the authority of the Lord. Trust again this God who sovereignly rules over every atom of creation and every millisecond that passes on this earth.
