Ask Him

What do we do now that our work with Sports Camp is done? Ask the Lord to do what He still can do.

One indicator of what we believe God is able to do is what we ask Him to do. The God who made everything out of nothing, with a Word. The God who cornered the world’s most powerful king with his army, made the middle of the Red Sea dry just long enough to get His people safe, before crushing the enemies chasing them. The God who put on flesh, to let that body be broken, to let His blood be shed—to take the place of the sinners He chose to save. The God who got up from an earthly grave, to sit down on Heaven’s throne.

What is our God able to do? Do your prayers match what you say you believe He is able to do? Listen to Ephesians 3:20-21: “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

Beloved, our God is able to do far more abundantly beyond all than you or I think—beyond all you or I ask. Ask Him! Ask Him to save every kid from Sports Camp! Ask Him to make holy everyone in this room! Ask Him to glorify Himself by healing us all of anger and anxiety, making our marriages reflect Christ’s relationship with the church, using our church for the spiritual good of thousands in this town, this region, and to the ends of the earth. Beloved, our God is able to do that and more. The question is whether you believe that, and whether your prayers show that you believe that.

The great abilities of God deserve great asks from us. We’ve fallen short. Before I lead us in corporate confession, take a few moments now, in silent prayer, to confess specific ways that your prayers make light of what God is able to do.
