God is Always Faithful, Even When We’re Not
When was the last time your first response to hardship was, “Father, thank You for Your faithfulness”?
If you’re like me, that’s often not our first response. More often, we grumble. We complain. We question God’s goodness—much like Israel did in the wilderness, even after watching Him part the Red Sea and provide for them day after day. Instead of trusting Him, we begin to wonder if He has somehow failed us.
Why do we do that?
Could it be that we have forgotten what we actually deserve?
When we lose sight of God’s holiness and our sin, we begin to think God owes us a comfortable, predictable life. Then, when suffering comes, we conclude that He has somehow been unfaithful.
But the gospel tells an entirely different story. Romans 5:8 says, “God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” We deserved judgment, yet He gave us mercy. We deserved condemnation, yet He gave us adoption. We deserved wrath, yet He gave us His own Son.
If God never gave us another earthly blessing… He has already given us infinitely more than we deserve in Christ.
That changes how we view every trial. Instead of asking, “God, why is this happening to me?” we can ask, “Father, how are You displaying Your faithfulness to me through this?”
Church, His character has not changed. His promises have not failed. His love has not diminished. The God who was faithful in sending His Son… is the same God who is faithful to sustain His people today.
Find your comfort here: your expectations were never the standard — His promises are. And He is faithful to every one of them…because faithfulness is who He is.
